Microsoft Talking to Nokia About Windows Mobile
Microsoft has confirmed that it is talking to Nokia about offering the Windows Mobile operating system on its mobile phones. Nothing is to happen soon though.
"There are a lot of discussions happening with Nokia", Pieter Knook, senior vice president, Mobile Communications Business for Microsoft said to journalists at the company's press conference in Barcelona, Spain. "But before we move on to other operators, lets celebrate Sony Ericsson coming onboard first."
Sony Ericsson has used Microsoft's latest mobile operating system in its newest handset announced on Sunday. The Xperia handset will be heavily customised, but uses Mobile 6 at its core.
"We thought we could do better than other handset makers with a Windows Mobile device", Rikko Sakaguchi, senior vice president and head of product and application planning at Sony Ericsson confidently said.
But Reuters has reported Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, Nokia's CEO, as saying that the phone company does not intend to offer phones running the Windows Mobile operating system.
"We don't have plans to do Windows in mobile at the moment", Kallasvuo is quoted as stating.
Sony Ericsson Unveils Windows Mobile Phone

Mobile phone makers, Sony Ericsson have signed a development deal with Microsoft to produce a mobile phone using the Windows Mobile operating system.
At the mobile world congress in Barcelona, Sony Ercisson announced the launch of seven new handsets.
One of the handsets, The Sony Ericsson Windows Mobile Xperia X1 has a three inch touch screen,
Sony Ericsson has not given details on pricing but has said the phone will be released later this year (2008).
It's the first time that Sony Ericsson has not used the Symbian operating system, in which it is a shareholder.
Nokia and Facebook to add each other
Facebook and Nokia are in talks over a mobile tool that could see the Finland based mobile handset maker releasing handsets with the social networking site built in.
Nokia is said to be looking at ways of promoting Facebook through handsets just like Youtube on the iPhone.
Nokia is also planning to buy a piece of Facebook and an unnamed executive said "a partnership is in the works."
Facebook is already accessible on mobile devices but this would be the first time the site was embedded into handsets' software.
MySpace still beats Facebook in market share

MySpace attracted 76.35% of all visitors to the 53 leading social networking sites with Facebook being a distant second with 12.57% according to Hitwise
The web metrics firm says MySpace has the lion's share of web traffic to social networking sites in the United States.
Bebo has 1.24% and Blackplanet has 0.87%. All the remaining websites on the list account for 8.97% of US visits.
Zune for Lovers
Software giant Microsoft on Tuesday introduced an 80GB version of its Zune music player that comes in red.
Buyers can choose to have the device engraved with one of several love inspired themes and also add a custom Valentine's day message.
The lover's Zune is priced at 249$, according to Microsoft.
In the same package, the company says it's going to offer Valentine's song playlists featuring love songs for purchase on its Zune marketplace website.
Microsoft is piling the pressure on mp3 player market leader Apple whose iPod brand of players has become immensely popular.
Facebook to pull Scrabulous app
Social networking site Facebook has been asked to remove the hugely popular Scrabulous app from its website by the makers of board game Scrabble.
The add-on has become very popular on Facebook with some 500,000 daily users.
Hasbro and Mattel, makers of Scrabble say Scrabulous infringes on their copyright on the board based game.
Many Scrabulous fans are protesting the move both by Hasbro and Mattel.
Facebook to allow Profile Clean Up
Facebook has announced that they are finally going to allow users to hide apps from their profiles.
They are introducing a profile cleanup tool that will work like Windows' desktop cleanup wizard which will allow users to move some profile boxes to an extended portion of their profile.
Users can move any or all of the apps boxes but Facebook will recommend that users keep the Friends Box, Mini-Feed, Wall, Basic and Personal Information as well as the top 12 application boxes they have added. They will then add a link at the bottom that says "Show extended profile" which will allow visitors to see all the applications that a user is using.
This is very good news from Facebook for me and other people who hate the clutter that comes up when you try to access some people's profiles. I particularly don't like the werewolves thing, Funwall and the lousy YouTube videos that are posted on people's profiles.
New Template
Just starting out on this blog and I thought I should use a template that's different from the traditional blogger templates. I guess this was originally made for wordpress but it has been modified to fit blogger.
